When a traditional restoration is not enough to repair a tooth with dental decay, Dr. Zia Rizvi may recommend a dental crown.

What Is a Dental Crown?

Dental crowns are a restorative treatment that use a prosthetic to “cap” the remaining parts of a healthy tooth after it has been damaged by dental decay. They are usually necessary when cavities caused by dental decay become too extensive to be repaired by a normal dental filling, and they can be created with a variety of materials, such as porcelain, gold or amalgam. Typically, modern dental crowns are made from porcelain, creating a “white” restoration that is matched to your natural tooth color. At our office we use CEREC same-day dental crowns to give you a quality restoration in a fraction of the time it would take to complete a traditional one.

What To Expect

After determining that a dental crown is needed, Dr. Zia Rizvi and our team will take an impression of the tooth to create your new dental crown. Our dentist will prep your tooth by removing any decay and shaping it to receive the crown. The crown is then milled, shaped, and fixed into place and sealed over the structure of your natural tooth for a seamless, long-lasting fix.
